Jaya P S born in 1990, she is a young artist based in Kochi (Kerala). Jaya finished her BFA and MFA in Painting from RLV College Tripunithura, Kerala in 2011 and 2015 respectively. In 2011 and 2019 she was part of the Kerala Lalitha Kala academy state exhibition of arts. In 2014 she participated in the student's biennale organized by Kochi muziris biennale foundation. Performance is also part of her art practice. Her recent participation includes 'celebrating failure' solo exhibition organized by Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy, 'Lokame Tharavadu' ( The world is one family) curated by Bose Krishnamachari(2021) Jaya is a recipient of the state award (2014), and a diamond jubilee fellowship from the department of cultural affairs, Kerala, young artist scholarship from govt. of India (2013). Her work takes shape while pondering about the many problems women face in a patriarchal society and their explorations for survival. In her new paintings, she has attempted to break the formal fineness of paintings. After the first phase of actual depictions, she has scribbled, scratched used accidental ink patches in the work to break the ingrained habit of prudence in her painting practice. she has begun to transcend personal dissatisfaction in her paintings and break boundaries. She has practised her new studio life in the midst of freedom, filled with such revelations and despair.
