Naphisabiang Khongwir (born in1996) is an artist based in Shillong (Meghalaya)
BFA in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan (2019)
MVA in Painting from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2021)
Through the medium of watercolour, Naphisabiang explores themes of passage, loss and mortality, by re-examining popular children's stories, Khasi folk and urban narratives. Women and children are recurring subjects for her as they address issues of violence in the body, around it, and in nature, subverting the social myths about childlikeness or femininity and bringing forth an image closer to the experiences of both.
Naphisabiang has received the weekly prize by Artdemic, a Gujral Foundation Initiative. She took part in an online exhibition called 'Untitled IX' by Priyasri Art Gallery and appeared as a panellist on 'Art in Khasi Culture' on Doordarshan Meghalaya. As part of EA Locus in Focus, her works were part of an exhibition by Emami Art Gallery, titled Rice Eaters 101 | N.E. curated by Pari Baishya. She was an artist in residence in Lawei: A Home for Art, supported by the Meghalayan Age Tourism Company
