Sewon Rai (born 1991) is a young artist based in Gangtok, Sikkim. Post graduate in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2017). He is working with various unconventional medium; works are loaded with bigger issues that encompass his identity as a global being. In his works he is not only trying to address the socio-political anomaly around his everyday life but also strong mobilizing his artistry to identify these unjust stories as a continuum of global historical facts of wars and walls.
Sadness, suffering, anguish which are the quintessential bearing of our society, be it local or global, compel him to create his work. Lately, these issues have given his work an expressionistic turn, though at times his works are becoming eclectic.
Sewon has actively participated in numerous art events including; 58th Lalit kala National Exhibition of Artand Conclave at Bengaluru. 51st Birla Academy of Art and Culture Annual Exhibition, Kolkata.All India EMAMI Annual Art Exhibition at Kolkata.North East Zonal Cultural Center Painting workshop at Dimapur, Nagaland.Lalit Kala Akademi Northeast Painters Camp at Lucknow (U.P). Interactive Camp of Tribal, Folk and Contemporary Artist at Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Conservation and Restoration of Paintings organized by Directorate of Archaeology and Museums Govt. of W.B in Kolkata. Lalit Kala International mural painters camp at Kerala, etc.
He had awarded Lalitkala National Research Scholarship (Painting). ABIR FIRST TAKE-2019 at, Ahmedabad. Best award at Rabindra Bharati University Annual Exhibition, Kolkata. Rajya Charukala Parshad under Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Govt. Of West Bengal, etc.
