Shailesh B.R. (born 1986) received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, specializing in painting, from the Chamarajendran Academy of Visual Arts, Mysore, and has a post-graduate diploma from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Baroda. His practice revolves around the nature of processes – of philosophical thought, art and rituals, expressed through a visual vocabulary that makes the viewer reimagine the purpose and function of routine objects. His works are playful reconfigurations of philosophical thought through mechanical means.
Shailesh is recognized with FICA Emerging Artist Award, Fine Arts Awards by Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, and Nasreen Mohammadi Award among others to list. He has exhibited his works at various national and internationally recognized platforms like; Language is Migrant at Colomboscope, Sri Lanka and Abu Dhabi, Dubai; Hub India in Turin, Italy; Sovereign Asian Art Prize -Finalist’s Exhibition in Hong Kong, China; Vector of Oppression, Busan Video Art Festival, South Korea and Big Biennale, Geneva. So far, Shailesh has compiled five solo exhibitions namely; Tarka at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi 2017; The Last Brahmin at Villa Arson, Nice 2020; Displacement at Delhi Contemporary Weekend, Bikaner House 2021. Whereas, Notes to Self-2020,and Shooting Stars 2022 are virtual solo exhibitions represented by Vadehra Art Gallery. He has also been actively represented in numerous group exhibitions amongst which the Notes from Lockdown at Birla Academy of Art and (Pro)Found at Vadehra Art Gallery are most recent. Shailesh is currently practicing at his studio in New Delhi.
